I have a few recommendations on editing messages.

I have noticed that I do not get the option to edit messages that are old.  I don't know exactly what the time frame is, but essentially previously posted old message are not editable.  I had previously found an instance of some information that I had provided that was no longer accurate.  Rather that being able to correct that information, I was simply forced to delete the post entirely. 

I would like to propose the possibility that:

1.  We always have the ability to edit our own messages.  Given that...

2.  ... edits also include an edit line that provides the reason for the edit, and..

3.  ... the option to view the original unedited message can be obtained. 

In this way, I can edit my old messages to provide new updated information (that doesn't affect the accuracy of the old post of course) and provide a reason for the edit.  Similar to:

Edited.

Reason: Spelling mistake.  (View original here.)

I like this idea, and would like to append to it. Provide a 1-5 minute grace period where we can edit out message without it being flagged as edited. I sometimes will catch a spelling error, or double words, or whatever, that need to be corrected. This 'edit' really shouldn't be noted as 'edited'.

As has been asked before Spell Check needs to be real time in these posts.

What's your thoughts on a specific group of users having this functionality instead of everyone? For example, what if super users and top level mentors were the only ones who could edit their posts for all time?

That makes more sense and sounds good to me, ma'am!  Some of us probably could use some extra powers around here.

It kind of is. A lot of the controls on the back end are very all or nothng, so we're at that point of trying to figure out how to handle that. So... it is in the works. You are correct.

So then the next step would be to make these "Super User" monitors with full monitors duties?

Murph,

I think asking all of the top users to commit to monitoring duties (accept solutions on any post, edit titles, tagging, etc.) would be a bit much, but for those who want to help in that manner it could be done. I really don't know how you all manage to answer SO many questions, so I don't ever want to ask or force more on anyone!
