    Network error - Any Ideas??

    Windows 98 SE - IE Version 6.0 - Project point Version 4.0.737.16
Novell Network - running Border Manager

    *********
    ProjectPoint Error
Could not send a server request.
Network error: a connection with the server could not be established.
    *********

This happens after hitting ok at the Project point login box. I am able
to get everything to work on our Win 2000 machines.
Does windows 98 have different settings? I have already looked at the
"do not save encrypted pages to disk" to be unchecked, "run activex
controls and plugins", "download signed activex control", and "file
downloade" to be set to prompt or enabled.

any other ideas would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    jamie

When you try to login to your Buzzsaw site, the ProjectPoint application
changes from regular HTTP to HPPS -- the secure protocol. It does this so it
can send your user name and password in an encrypted form. I think there is
something wrong with your network or computer settings that are preventing
you from contacting the Buzzsaw server. As you can tell from the error
message, the ProjectPoint client application attempts to contact the Buzzsaw
server at Exodus, it fails, and eventually the client application gives up
and puts up the error message. You may want to try downloading and executing
    http://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com/!/download/ProxyOn.reg. This helps some
users who are having firewall problems.

    Is it HPPS OR HTTPS?

We currently have url's below as trusted sites.

    http://folders.buzzsaw.com
    https://folders.buzzsaw.com
    http://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com
    https://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com

Should I be adding another url? Not for sure where Exodus is coming from. Does
    it have a url?

It should not be the network issue because I can get it to work on Win 2000
machines. Both Win 2000 and Win 98 have the same build of IE6. Settings should
    be the same.

Our IT guy wants to avoid running proxyon.reg.

    thanks for the help.

It's HTTPS -- that was a typo on my part. You have the right URLs. The
servers attached to those URLs are located at the Exodus secure computing
facility in Santa Clara. What happens when you ping the URLs?

I can not ping "folders.buzzsaw.com" or "projectpoint.buzzsaw.com" from the Win
98 machines. Win 2000 machines work fine.

    Jamie,

Pass the following information on to your IT team to make sure they have
this info configured properly in your firewall/proxy server.

Configure your proxy server/firewall appropriately: In the event that the
above test fails, please make sure that the following IP addresses are
    allowed:

    · Projectpoint.buzzsaw.com (64.75.26.36) ports 80 (HTTP) and 443
    (HTTPS)

    · Webdav.buzzsaw.com (64.75.26.93) ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS)

    · Configure your proxy server and firewall to allow access via WebDAV.

Note: You may require assistance from your internal IT support staff to do
    this.

You may also want get them involve now. There is obviously something in your
network blocking you from getting to our servers.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the info, we have done all of this. still does not work. This is only
happening on our win 98 machines. I can't ping anything from our win 98
machines. This is probably a topic for a different news group, unless anyone has
any other ideas. Thanks for the help.

By the way thanks for the webdav.buzzsaw.com. Are these urls accessible to
anyone. We only use Buzzsaw because our clients use it. Every time a new version
of Buzzsaw is issued we have to go through this run around allowing new url to
    pass through our firewall.

    folders.projectpoint.com,
    folders.buzzsaw.com,
    projectpoint.buzzsaw.com,
    webdave.buzzsaw.com, etc

Is there a TID somewhere on this. Are some of these urls not used anymore and we
can remove them from our allow list to clean things up. Just looking for a
quicker way to roll out new versions with little problems. FYI the problem of
not being able to access buzzsaw with win 98 machines seemed to be only
problematic after installing Project point Version 4.0.737.16.

    thank you,

While this might not help the network problem, could you try it with the latest version of the client? 4.0.737.25.

The WebDAV URLs are accessible to anyone. When you navigate via the URL, it
prompts you for your ProjectPoint user name and password. I think you can
create a shortcut with the login/password information already associated.
This is helpful for people who just need to upload and download files. If
you couple this with subscription notification, then you can get
announcements of their changes even though these users are not using the
upload wizard with its associated e-mail notification feature. Buzzsaw is a
    beautiful thing...

People who need to add users, create projects, etc. will still need to use
the ProjectPoint client. So leave the URLs that you have as exemptions from
the firewall processing. The ones you have are a complete list and should
not change for some time (as far as I know - I don't work there.)

In summary, for the ProjectPoint client application:

    http://folders.buzzsaw.com
    https://folders.buzzsaw.com
    http://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com
    https://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com

For WebDAV, using Internet Explorer only (no install of the client is
    needed):

    https://webfolders.buzzsaw.com

You can use the Open feature of Internet Explorer to use WebDAV, but you
have to remember to click the "Open as Web Folder" item.
