The ProjectPoint thick client supports firewall proxy authentication automatically. Once the user enters their proxy name and password, subsequent ProjectPoint requests automatically use that proxy information.
If your proxy performs poorly, then that's the performance you'll get when connecting to any network application. Have you measured your proxy performance to see whether you're likely to have issues when moving large amounts of data through it?

"Once the user enters their proxy name and password, subsequent ProjectPoint requests automatically use that proxy information. "
How do I do this in Buzzsaw?

David is talking about Buzzsaw. ProjectPoint.exe is the name of the Buzzsaw
client application. You use it when you use URLs of the form:
https://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com/client/sitename.
