what is shrinkwrap for

Hello all: I'm hoping somebody with a little extra time will tell me/us what
is shrinkwrap good for and what are the advantages/disadvantages of using
it. I've used ADT through all it's versions and have never used it. Am I
missing something? I've read the little info that is in the helpfile and
don't see what it does that wall styles don't.

If somebody could give the lowdown on Shrinkwrap I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Mike Johnson

Don't get me started on shrinkwrap...

I don't know what it was designed for, but I can tell you how I used it in ADT2.

I would create a layer called 'SHRINKWRAP'. Then, in every wall style, I would
edit the display properties and assign the shrinkwrap to the layer 'SHRINKWRAP'.
I would assign SHRINKWRAP a color that make it plot heavier than the base layer
of WALL.
Then, I'd just freeze the SHRINKWRAP layer in the framing & electrical viewports
and, when plotted, the walls would be lighter than in my floor plan viewport. I
loved it!

However, in ADT3, there is a defect (ID 280268): shrinkwrap can't be
independently frozen from the wall layer. In other words, if you freeze
SHRINKWRAP from my scenario above, the entire wall freezes. This will supposedly
be addressed in the next service patch.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Scott.

S.
you can however add a new Display rep that allows you to turn off the
shrinkwrap for ELEC.
etc..

Mike,
Shrinkwrap is intended to profile your walls in the same way an architect would
do it with a pencil. Make the outer linework heavier. ADT can also display
shrinkwrap for inner components (if you hav a big cavity for instance) - this is
shrinkwrap hatch.

Hope that helps.
