stepped footing, brick shelf, etc

What's the best way to model a wall with a stepped footing? Do you change
the base elevation for a bottom justified wall & break the wall into pieces?
Then endcap the footing so it 'underlaps' the higher section... and endcap
the wall so it also underlaps the higher section... etc?

Is it possible to edit in place a brick shelf [height] on a wall segment?

I've always found drawing a short brick wall on the ledge simpler than
trying to edit a single wall to have a step. Particularly if the ledge will
have several different elevations. You could change the bottom offset in the
wall style to bring the brick down, but this works best when your wall has a
consistant brick ledge height.

...of course in Revit you just drag the bottom of the brick down. very cool.

I've found the edit in place tedious if you have a lot of walls to do and
the design is in flux.
