computer weridness ADT related?

Lately when using ADT 3.3 I am getting bizare gliches. One thing that is
occuring is that when I attempt to snap to an end point I am getting snapped
to an unknown spot off to the side. This happens a lot, and to avoid this I
must Zoom in very close.

Another thing that is happening is that the shade mode keeps switching on
its own. Every now and then I must go to View and switch back to 2D
Wireframe.

I ahve never seen anything like this before.

Sometimes when I go to hatch and if I have an Xref loaded in that drawing I
am hatching, I get huge numbers across the monitor area that completely
obsure the hatch area and this disallows the creation of the hatch. If I
detach the xref, all works ok.

Very annoying, time consuming strange stuff is going on here.

Does anyone else have these symptoms of crazy behavior? Any ideas?

Thanks.

Jack,

What happens if you go to Tools> Options > Drafting and unselect the magnet
in autosnap settings? I don't know about the shade mode problem. On the
hatch problem, I'm curious are you hatching in model or paper space? I ask
because I get bizarre behavior when inserting Ole objects in paper space but
not model space.

But I like the magnet effect.

I am pretty sure it is linked to the View > Shade problem somehow. The
shade mode switches on by itself after I zoom a few times. I can tell it
has happened because all of a sudden some lines aren't selectable when I
click on them. For some reason this is a buggy thing in ADT that happens.
A ghost image is created just off to the side of the real objects and that
becomes the place that has to be clicked to select the item. So when I
click on something and it is not selected, then I know the shade mode has
just turned on. I go over and click on 2D wireframe and then the image
changes a tiny bit, and I can select objects again.

I'll give your magnet idea a try. darn it....It happens a lot working thru
the viewport. I might have some conflicting software installed so will be
checking that angle too. Another weird thing going on is that my I.E.
doesn't load when I click on it the first time. It sort of flashes like it
is going to open, but nothing happens, and then if I open it a second time
it opens right up with no evidence of a problem. This is abouta week old
now.

Thanks

Jack

Take your pick, JacK: maybe it's the 80-90 degree weather in LA and your computer wants to go to the beach, or it could be the ol'Santeria aspect of ADT. Meet me at the beach with a cooler of beer. Bob

good idea. I can bring my Paul Aubin book and we can go over some some of
the finer points...

Jack,

Are you perhaps using the Orbit command during the process? The Orbit
command changes it from 2D Wireframe. If you change the view back to Plan
after using Orbit, you still have to change it back to 2D Wireframe.

Concerning the weird snap point. Maybe this is associated with the
Basepoint of an attached xref.

Concerning the xref. I hope you aren't trying to apply a hatch using an
xref as the boundary. That doesn't work. Use the BPoly command to create a
boundary based on the xref, then use that polyline as the hatch boundary.
If you aren't trying to hatch using an xref, can you just temporarily Unload
(not detach) the xref while you are hatching?

Anyway, random thoughts and maybe one of them might help.

Doug,

I found out pretty quick about Orbit and 2D wireframes. The snap problem
may be due to a low battery in my mouse. This is a possibility as this
morning I got a low battery message. So maybe the battery was getting low
enough to cause aberrations in the pick points.

It is really weird. I can get a yellow box at an end point and when I click
I get a line starting an 8th of an inch away from the other end point.

However this morning I noticed that I had inadvertently not had the magnet
feature turned on. This could be the cause, but one would think that if the
cursor and the little box are on the desired snap point that the point would
be selected correctly, but that is not what was going on. When I turned on
the magnet it worked ok.

I am having nightmarish problems lately with ADT. This past week when using
the Xref Edit feature, now and then all of a sudden it crashes. There it is
stuck in the editor, and the only way out is to close AutoCAD. Luckily I
save every ten minutes and I think real slow, and draw even slower. In any
one 10 minute segment, I maybe draw one line.......I am kidding, but in the
past few days I feel like that is the case.

Thanks again.
