Sheet Set Manager

Help file says this is an Icon in the Standard toolbar. I don't see it in ADT. Is it really there? Is there a CTRL + macro? (Can you guess I'm doing a presentation today?) -- Regards, --------------- Reid M. You might be looking at the AutoCAD Help. We suppress the Sheet Set Manager, which is an AutoCAD feature, as all the abilities have been integrated into the pre-existing ADT Drawing Management feature...specifically the Project Navigator palette. It is on the Navigation tool bar or on the Window pulldown. -- chris yanchar | product designer building solutions division | autodesk, inc. http://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_walls/ "Reid M. Doesn't Project Navigator get "hosed" if someone opens a project drawing from Windows Explorer? -- Regards, --------------- Reid M. No - never seen that - but you could have a drawing open that is not in your current project. I do that all the time. No big deal. "Reid M. It doesn't get "hosed", but I certainly would not recommend doing file operations on project-based drawings outside of project navigator - specifically, Open, New and XREF Attach. Anything that is done outside of project navigator is not documented and stored in any XML or APJ files, meaning that as far as the project is concerned, it never happened. -- Matt Dillon Autodesk Discussion Forum Facilitator "Reid M. Reid, I wouldn't attempt to open the sheet set manager in ADT if you're using project management. All of the functionality of sheetsets is included in the Sheets tab of the project navigator, as Chris indicated. -- Matt Dillon Autodesk Discussion Forum Facilitator "Reid M. Since HALF of my 40+ users open drawings through Windows Explorer, should I abandon any hope of using Project Navigator? Or should I de-register DWG as a file type associated with AutoCAD ;) -- Regards, --------------- Reid M. Reid, It's not a problem to open dwg from WE. That alone wouldn't do any harm to a project enviroment. Lang "Reid M. But just as Matt said, there are a number of operations that will not register as part of the project. I vote for de-register. Ok. What doesn't register and why is this bad? -- Regards, --------------- Reid M. Addis Registered Architect Architectural Applications Specialist Granary Associates 411 North 20th Street Philadelphia, PA 19130 Ph. 215-665-7056 email: addis@granaryassoc.com

When using Project Navigator to create files, you are assigning where the information specifically exists within the context of the building. When you drag and drop files together it creates x-ref relationships in the background automatically choosing either X-ref Attach or Overlay, dpending on what is most appropriate. When you then go to create Views, PN presents a list of files that are associated with that portion of the building, again creating x-ref relationships in the background. All of the geographic information and x-reference relationships are all stored in the .xml files created for each file in the project. If these tpyes of operations are done outside of the PN environment, none of this information is recoreded and the project begins to breakdown because it doesn't "see" some of the drawing fies or "forgets" where this information belongs in the building. Can a "broken link" be registered after the fact? -- Regards, --------------- Reid M. Addis Registered Architect Architectural Applications Specialist Granary Associates 411 North 20th Street Philadelphia, PA 19130 Ph. 215-665-7056 email: addis@granaryassoc.com

If a drawing was never registered as part of the Project Navigator structure, you can drag and drop the file from Windows explorer and it will pop up the Wizard allowing you to "register" the drawing with the project just as if you were creating it brand new as you should have. For x-refs, you can just detach them, open the drawing through the PN interface and then drag and drop the files back together rebuilding the x-ref relationships, this time having them all "register" with the corresponding .xml files. Nah.. don't do anything as drastic as de-register. Just shoot 'em. -- Matt Dillon Autodesk Discussion Forum Facilitator "Reid M. Is is possible to use the sheet set manager in ADT without using the complete project management feature?
