we are beginning the design and construction of a go kart track on the side of a 51 degree slope with a difference in elevation of 35 feet. the track is going to be a helical spiral down with three loops then flatten out and return up the slope with a more gentle slope and a single loop returning to the top of the bank. my question is what is the best way to model this? would autocad be the program or viz5. what would be the best program elements to use for the various programs?

It might be easier in viz to do. You can do this with structural members in segments of the spiral (helix). Or maybe a spiral stair used as a ramp. Do a search on "race track design"

Try a concrete ramp from content browser with shape set to spiral, other sections could be multilanding ramps customise edge projected to polylines. Of course you won't be able to control camber or superelevation if that is required,
