King Size Brick hatch

Is there a pre-defined King Size Brick (nom. 3" x 10") hatch pattern? A lot
of new hatch patterns and wondering if there is another name for this style
that I not familiar with?

Well, couldn't find one, but it was easy enough to create- if anyone wants
it.

*Brick_Running-King, Brick: King-Size - Running bond
0, 0,0, 0,3
90, 0,0, 3,5, 3,-3

Here's a little trick:

If you run the routine in Details to apply a particular brick hatching to a
close boundary, a .pat file is temporarily created in your \My Documents\
folder. You could then copy/paste this into your main acad.pat file. It
will generate either a single line or double line (grout) depending on the
options you choose.

hmmm, I have gotten lost in the wall style as to where I need to define this
hatch pattern for the Brick component. Can you push me in the right
direction?

nevermind. I get a little intimidated of the Material tab, and eventually
waded through there to find the correct setting to change.

Did you export to UTF-8?

I could use some help, also, in creating a hatch pattern. The "recipie" is great if I knew what to do with it. No where have I seen "UTF-8" mentioned. I was hoping to use SUPERHATCH, but it only stacks the brick, whereas I need a running bond. Our whole Office does not have an Express Tools Help that works. Our AutoCAD supplier has not been of help on getting it to work. As asked by a previous posting, a step-by-step would be helpful. Read Y'all Later -KLYPH

That's too much to ask in these forums: HELP has a detailed general tutorial, plus instructions on coding, and there are dozens of free brick hatch patterns on the Internet that you can download, open in Windows Notepad, the study to help develop your own hatches.

I've been using AutoCAD since Release-9. Your reply was the least useful I've read in the last 25 years. Before posting my question, I had searched the Internet and found no AutoCAD patterns for any bricks. I did find a lot of King Size Beds and King Size Clothing. I notice that the Posting that started all of this was from 10 years ago. Although it is important to know how to use AutoCAD to its fullest, there are many times a Project Deadline looms and the Bosses don't understand our surfing AutoCAD HELP. Sometines we just need an answer. Right now, our only solution is to Array a KIng Size Brick. That is VERY bad and includes a lot of Trimming. I'm not upset at your reply, just running out of time. I dont understand why autodesk doesnt release a bunch of new hatches.  Why are we stuck with the same old hatches from 20 years ago?  Why dont we have some standard wood grains, and stone patterns, BATT insulation, KING size brick, and CMU etc...

If anyone can please direct me to where I can download these hatches for free I would be most appreciative.

Thanks,

Welcome to the Discussion Groups.

Are you using AutoCAD, or AutoCAD Architecture (a vertical product based on AutoCAD, with additional features, such as architecture-specific objects like Walls, Doors and Windows)?  The latter does ship with a large number of additional hatch patterns, including 39 brick patterns, some with single lines between bricks, and some with double lines (to show the mortar joint).  Most of these are for modular brick, so the Orginal Poster might still be in need of a custom pattern for King Size brick hatch.  Starting with one of these, as Dean suggested, along with understanding how hatches are defined, should make creating a custom hatch with different brick dimensions easier.  But if you only have AutoCAD....

A Google search on "AutoCAD brick hatch" turned up a number of sites offering free hatch patterns.  Perhaps one of those has a King Size brick pattern that would be useable.

I'm getting closer. I created a Pattern File using:

*Brick_Running-King, Brick: King-Size - Running bond
0, 0,0, 0,3
90, 0,0, 3,5, 3,-3

BUT, I get a message: "Error in Pattern File".

What am I missing?

I never did solve that Pattern problem.

I do have the attached brick lisp.

It works.

I would post it, but I keep getting the message "The file type doesn't match the type of its contents"

Your pattern worked just fine for me.  Did you put it into the acad.pat file, or did you do it as a stand-alone PAT file.  If the latter, the file name needs to match the pattern name, and you also want to make certain that you have a "return" at the end of the last line.  See the attached file, which I put in my "pats" folder, which is part of the AutoCAD search path, in ACA 2010.

Note also that stand-alone PAT files can only contain one pattern.

Hmm, so searching the Internet did help after all 🙂 I think you missed my line where I suggested you teach yourself hatch coding from examples found too. No worries.

Is the folder you placed the single PAT hatch file in your AutoCAD search paths? Your patterns works well here too.

PS: Ippong files seems to still work for posting files in these forums.

I looked at the pattern receipies in the existing brick pattern we have. It seems quite simple, but I ran out of time and had to get backt to "work" before I fully understood the sequence.  Although it would be good to know how to make such patterns, it shouldn't be necessary.  I can drive my car just fine without knowing how the carburator works.
