Custom Structural Profile

I'm creating a trellis....simple.

The trellis members are Structural Members (4x10). This is great because of
the flexibility in the various display configurations. I like using ADT3's
structural members for that reason...

HOWEVER, I now need to create a custom, spanish 'end-cut' for the trellis
cross members. Is it possible to assign a 'profile' to the ends of my 4x10
to make the shape? This task would be easy enough using solids &
conventional solid modeling, but then I would lose the versatility of the
display properties of the structural member.

Help?

Scott.

Not being an architect or a horticultural type, I'm not sure what this looks
like. Can you send me a quick sketch/photo/link/diagram to
mark.webb@autodesk.com and I'll let you know if and how the results can be
achieved...

regards

Thanks for you email.. Dennis McNeal also stopped by and explained what this
all meant 😉
(I knew I should have just asked someone here..)

Anyway, I was able to achieve this with Custom Blocks attached to either end
of the Member Styles display properties

To view this check out my posting in the content newsgroup.

1) edit the "Trellis" member style
2) select the Display Properties tab
3) select the Structural Member Style line then "Edit Display Props..."
4) Go to the edit page, and you will see a custom block definition for each
end of the trellis

Hope this helps

When I insert a trim plane to a beam end, and rotate it around the Z axis,
it only rotates one half of the beam. In other words, it only rotates on one
side of the centerline axis of the beam.

Try giving it an X offset as well.

Hi, I have been trying to figure out how to achieve a beam end similar to the one in this posting, but I can't seem to find your posting in the content news group. Could you please tell me how to view that posting?

A COUPLE OF OTHER APPROACHES MIGHT BE:

1. MAKE AN AECPROFILE FROM A POLYLINE
OF THE DESIRED SPANISH-END SHAPE AND THEN CREATE A MASS
ELEMENT USING "EXTRUSION"
2. USE TRADITIONAL SOLIDS EDITING THEN USE "AECMASSELEMENT
CONVERT" TO CREATE A MASS ELEMENT.

TRUE STRUCTURAL MEMBER TECHNIQUE W/ CUSTOM BLOCK IS PROBABLY
BETTER OR AT LEAST MORE "PRESCRIBED" ADT METHOD.

The post is from September 5, 2001, which is beyond the three-month cutoff on the web-based access. Try doing a search of the customer files news group, but change the "last 3 months" setting to "all" and search for the title listed in Mr. Webb's response.
