Colour by Block

Trying to produce quick renders inside ADT using ProjNav.
Creating a simple roof x-ref with colour set to ByBlock.
Should be able to set colour by changing colour of inserted block. ( would
expect roof x-ref with colour of componants to change as per colour selected
for inserted block).
Doesn't work !! Ignores ByBlock setting for colour.
Have unselected ByMaterial and made material setting ByBlock anyway.

Hve 66 units with only 3 roof shapes. Would be easy with only 3 inserted
x-ref's and able to change colour by colour change ByBlock.
I don't need/want to create a number of roofs of same type just to change
colour.

please any help would be appreciated.

I guess I ask the wrong type of questions.
Anyone ? I don't want to produce 6 x 3 of the same building just to change
the colour.

Posting a sample usually helps... I can't quite figure out what you're trying to do. If it's change the color of an xref's linework in the host drawing, you want the initial drawing's entities and display properties of object styles set to color "bylayer" with Visretain enabled.

Make sure they are set to by block in the correct display representations.

Thanks for the response guys.
I have set every setting I can find to ByBlock but it ignores it with AEC
objects.
Sure it works for lines & solids but I can't seem to get it to work with ADT
objects.
I have unassigned any material assignment and unticked the ByMaterial box.
I will look at Visretain but I don't think thats it.

I am attaching a previous rendering I did on the same site. Design has
completely changed.
Just need to demonstrate the overall subdivision without getting too
detailed or producung too many drawings (like I did last time).

I want to use 3 different designs and just insert as x-ref's and change
colour by changing the colour of the inserted block ie. for the roof or
wall object.

Thanks for the comments though.

Did you try bylayer to see if that was what worked?
Nice rendering!
The rendering looks like it was done in VizRender or Viz, right? You can change the color/material there, overriding the assignments in ADT.

Yes, very nice!!
(except the cars are on the wrong side of the road, and he spelled color wrong --doesn't he get that the American way is the only way, and others must follow? Maybe Mr. Bush needs to talk to him --maybe he will listen more than the rest of the world does -- ha ha!!)

Thanks for the laugh Bob. Rendered in ADT2005 - my tool of choice.
My issue with by layer is it's a lot more work that just simply being able
to select a block and change the colour and having a prime part (wall or
roof) update. It's meant to be a simple rendering (though detailed) and I
don't want to (shouldn't have to) create many different models of the same
thing just to get different coloUr.

Actually Bob I wzs pondering accents and I think the american pronounciation
is more consistent than the aussie way. Having done some homeschooling and
tried to teach my kids grammar, we aussies have such wild & random ways of
pronouncing the same letter/s.
And why the heck do we add an extra unnecessary letter ? But don't gloat
too much -- you still work in ye old english measurements. 🙂
