Brain Dump - Property Data Enhancements

I just posted a brain dump on property data enhancements in ADT 2004 on the
autodesk.aec.arch-desktop.customer-gallery newsgroup.

Enjoy!

I haven't made it past page three and I'm already on my knees singing your
praises!! You have made a *ton* of some of my most complicated code
obsolete with a few lines of vbscript...I'm weeping with joy 🙂

I'll try to remember this one in the future when I get drenched with tears
of frustration. 😉

Thanks Bobby!

Yet another appetizer to tide me over until the main course is served. Thanks so much - both for the information and for the new capabilities in property data.

I can't wait to sink my teeth into the Formula property definitions. Yet another skill set that my employer will be only too happy to exploit without compensating for it or even merely acknowledging it. I guess its hard to fully appreciate things you do not understand. But hey, if I was in this just for the money, would have I gone into architecture at all? 🙂

Thanks again for the Brain Dump, and as I have been saying all along, "Keep them coming."

Scott,

A most excellent brain-dump, and I congratulate you on your efforts. I know
it's crazy to get all geeked up on schedules, but this is great!

Question: In the document, you mentioned Paul's suggestion of naming a room
based on an adjacent room using location properties. So that got me
thinking that I could create a tag (an MVBlock) with a location property
that reads the room name just by putting the location grip on top of it. I
managed to get everything working except that the tag doesn't display the
data. When I click on the tag, I can see in the Properties palette that the
tag has the data on the Extended Data tab, and the attributes have the
correct name. Do MVBlock tags still have to be anchored to an object in
order to have the data show up in the attributes? This is obvious in
previous versions, but now that properties can come from other objects
without anchoring, it might be a great extension candidate.

Thanks!
-Danny Polkinhorn

Thanks for the congrats, Danny! Hope the brain dump is useful to you.

Answer: Yes, MVBlocks must be tag anchored to an object in order to have
data show up in attributes. Your suggestion is a very good idea and would be
trivial to implement, but I believe that implementation would break the
current rules for an extension. I recommend posting this on the wishes
group.

Thanks!

Likewise. So let us be sure to thank My John Janzen as well, for actually
planting the seed of that idea. I just implemented it. 🙂

The Customer Gallery Forum is no longer accessible, but that does not mean that you cannot get Mr. Arvin's Brain Dump on Property Data Enhancements, as you can download the PDF attached to this post.
