Blips left on screen when dim layers off

Does anyone know why dots are left on the screen when the dimension layers
are turned off. They will disappear if the layer is frozen but is there a
better way?

These "dots" are called Defpoints and reside on the Defpoints layer.

This "feature" was added in R2000 and the best option I have found is to
turn off your defpoints layer and just leave it off.

The only problem with this approach is that to truly see that a DIM has been
correctly placed is to verify that the defpoint is located exactly where you
meant to place it. Also, defpoints are needed to grip edit dimensions
accurately.

You could create 2 layer states....one of which has the DIM and the
Defpoints layers frozen, and toggle between them.

I do not understand, not all that unusual by the way. I grip edit all
the time with the defpoints layer off, as soon as you select the
dimension you get the grip box at the exact location of the defpoints
dot allowing you to verify and move the pick point.

The main problem with leaving the defpoints on is that you can be moving
dimensions around and not even knowing it even though your dimensions
are off. My problem with this since R14 is that they do not turn off
when you turn off the dimension layer, I see no advantage to this as it
can only lead to problems with goofing up your dimensions. The reason I
call it a "feature" is that for some reason it was changed in R2000 and
the only explanation I heard is that now you can edit your dimensions
even if they are off, for instance if you move a wall. I for one think
that is very risky and I could not imagine editing them when they are
off.

I guess its just a matter of preference. I like seeing my defpoints when
grip editing and if I freeze the DIMS I also freeze the defpoints as well.
