Blank Drawing open Causes Crash

I have finally narrowed down the frequent closing of A2K2 when I hit the
"close drawing" X at the top right corner of the screen.... If anyone
remembers, on one particular computer (Dell PIII 900, Running W2K) I would
have several drawings open, click to close ONE of those open drawings and
ADT3.3 would completely close down ALL drawings, not just the one that I had
clicked on...

This SAME computer has another quirk that MAY be related... maybe someone
at AutoDesk can help narrow this down. (Hint: Bill Glennie :<)) The other
quirk is that when I start an Autocad Session there is (of course) a blank
drawing open. When I click on a drawing from the TODAY window, ie: one that
I had open previously and want to re-open, the new drawing opens BUT the
blank drawing remains open... instead of closing. Sometimes this causes the
computer to bomb out of ADT3.3 immediately, and the only way that I can
prevent this is to start Autocad again, manually CLOSE the blank drawing
BEFORE going into another drawing file...

The closing of multiple drawings unexpectedly seems to occur when this blank
drawing is left open also...

Question: Isn't this blank drawing SUPPOSED to close automatically when
going into another file (as long as you have not drawn anything in that
blank drawing... it does do this on all the other computers at the office
and at home also on my laptop... Is there a variable that is set wrong, or
do I need to do a "repair installation" on my ADT3.3

Since writing the first part of this post:

I have tried to do a "repair" of my Autocad installation, first trying the
"repair Autocad Loading Mechanism" and will shortly try the regular full
blown repair.

I am now consistently getting a complete SHUTDOWN of Autocad when I open
Autocad, go to Today, and then pick on a previous file (or a new one from
browse) UNLESS I close the blank drawing FIRST.... it will load the drawing
and then just shut down as soon as the drawing is finished loading

BTW system is s PIII Dell 933 with 256k and all other programs seem to be
running all right

Thanks for any help you can give

Doug - there may be some "Today" problem on that one computer. Give this a
try:

Under the program install directory, you'll see the directory WebDepot.
Within that is ErrorHandler, which contains RepairToday.exe. Hope this helps.

Nope Just tried Aggressive and the problem still persists....

Open ADT3.3
Today Window Opens
Choose previously open drawing (or browse to other drawing)
ADT3.3 opens the drawing
CRASH

Scenario 2.
Open ADT3.3
Today Window Opens
Manually Close Blank Drawing
Choose drawing to open
ADT3.3 opens the drawing
Everything is OK

Dear Bill... Do I need to Uninstall Adt3.3 and clean the registry and do a
"fresh" install The install I have running now was an update of 3.0

Thanks

Doug - we have installed ADT3.3 as both upgrade and fresh and have NOT
observed this problem. Could this system possibly need an update of
Internet Explorer? That might solve this.

Dear Bill....

Nice Try... BUT... have just checked... it is IE 5.5 Build
#5.50.4522.1800IC, SP1, Q299618 (the Q299618 is I believe the desgnation
for the Critical Update that I installed)

Also, just changed Options to Run Traditional Start up and opened ADT and
the clicked on a file in the file pull down. It opened, and then crashed
also.. even without the Today box being open... My AECversion reads
3,3,0,376 is this the latest.. (I assume so, since it came as a VIP
subscription)

Is there anything else short of a complete re-install on this computer that
I can do... (I would also need hints on where to look for registry entries
to completely clean that out... I would want a completely clean install if
I go that route)

Thanks

Douglas - before you do a thorough re-install, is there anything that is
different about this one computer? Does it perhaps have a modified template
that appears first?

Try removing the "/t ..." from the startup icon, which will allow you to
start with a "scratch" drawing rather than from a template. From your
experience with the "traditional" startup dialog, I'm guessing that the
default drawing is somehow corrupt.

If this doesn't help, I can send you instructions for thoroughly removing
all Autodesk software from the system.

Bill
