AEC crashes ADT 3.3 and ADT 2i

I have upgraded OS to XP Pro and have installed ADT2i and then trial of
ADT3.3 Neither program will allow use of AEC objects or dwg templates, I
get a Fatal Error; Attempt to delete AecDatabaseData which still has
    registered dependants.

The menu line says could not load requested module "C:\Program Files\Common
    Files\Autodesk Shared\AecBase20.dbx".

I cannot open any existing drawings that contain Aec Objects.

    Please assist.

    Craig.

    Crag,

Run a reinstallation of ADT. Select the option named as "Repair AEC loading
mechanism". That might fix the problem.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I don't know for sure but I
don't believe that those 2 programs can co-exist on the same drive/machine.
A search through these newsgroups should yield an answer to that.

    Alfred,

Thank you for the suggestion. I reinstalled ADT2i and can now use the
metric aec template, however no AEC applications are loaded. I could not
find the Repair AEC loading mechanism option, is this in ADT 3.3 only? If I
load AecData.dbx by manually looking for the file, same error about
dependants comes up and it crashes again. Also on loading I get a error
that the shortcut has a bad profile in the ADT.arg and that the one in the
    registry will be substituted.

    Craig.

    Craig,

Yes, that option is in the ADT3.3 installation CD. Also, I think the problem might be
caused for trying to have ADT2i and ADT3.3 installed in the same machine. Why don't
    you just leave one version?

    Alfredo,

I have only ADT2i on the machine at present. I would like to be able to go
back to a fully functioning 2i before I load 3.3 again. I am reluctant to
try 3.3 again until I,( with the assistance of people like yourself), have
repaired the problem. I would like to know what caused the error in the
    first place.

    Craig,

The problem might have been caused when you tried to have the two programs
simultaneously. I understand that these two versions cannot coexist in the same
    system.

    Alfredo,

I think you are right, I should not have installed 3.3 with 2, however 3.3
and 2i are supposed to be able to coexist on same box.

I still haven't been able to "clean" my machine to ensure a clean install as
the problems persist after removal and re-installation.

Do you know of a sure fire way to rid an XP Pro box of ADT (without
formatting and reloading the OS I mean!)

    Craig,

After the uninstallations of both programs, make sure that you remove the
folders as well. Then, re-start the machine, and install ADT3.3 again. That
    should work.

Arch Desktop 2i and 3.3 can co-exist on the same
system.  The following is the install order that must be followed to allow
these products to function on the same system:
    1. Install Arch Desktop
    2i.

    2. Install service pack 1 for Arch
    Desktop 2i.

    3. Install Arch Desktop 3.3.

And that should about cover it.  Since you
have had problems with your previous installations, I would recommend
uninstalling and reinstalling all of your Autodesk software according to the
    following solution:
