ADT freezes with Celeron processor upgrade

Early in the loading process, ADT 3.3 freezes the computer completely and I
have to reset it. The problem appears to be related to the Evergreen
PerformaSE 766 I installed. This is "based on the Intel Celeron 766MHz.
processor, utilizing enhanced instructions and MMX." (I'm using Windows 98
SE with 320 MB RAM.)
The original processor is a Pentium II 233. ADT runs fine on it, albeit
quite lethargically.

Anyone have any suggestions other than buying a new box or installing a new
motherboard?

Thanks!

Rich Mathews

Win98?
Ummm, How about upgrading your OS to one which doesn't need an airbag and a seatbelt?

I'm sorry for being scarcastic...but I'm half serious. Why run a high end design application on an OS better suited for a child's computer running hasbro games?

Rich, if you are a student running the student version, you have my sympathies (and, I am sure, Jan's). If you are using ADT to make a living, you have made the wierdest processor choice I have read in over a year of following this discussion. What caused you to believe that kit would work? If they told you it would support ADT, you need to get a refund and apply it toward a new box.

PS-- maybe someone will have some way for you to have that work, but it can't be really right. Celerons have never been noted as good for Autocad; ADT is considerably more demanding.

return that processor
i have tried evergreen on LX chipsets before and have had similar problems
if i were you i would go to pricewatch.com and get a pII333 witch is the
most your motherboard can handle.

A shot in the dark here. Do you have hardware acceleration on in AutoCAD? If
so, try setting it to software acceleration to see if you still have the
crash. Maybe some weird conflict between your video card and your new
processor?
