2 Viewports with different linetypes?

here's the scenario:----------------------1) I have two viewports in one sheet file. 2)I have an xrefed ADT floor plan model overlayed into the sheet file in model space. 3) I'm using one viewport as my floor plan and the other as my RCP plan.--------------------Question: how do I make the linetype and color of the same building xref model be viewed differently with regards to linetype and color in each of the two viewports in the sheet file? I've been told you can accomplish this task with display reps but....how? I've seen that you can create a new display configuration and display set in sheet file but how do make the objects themselves respond the the viewports assigned display rep?

Roberto

Try assigning a "plan" rep to one viewport, then an
"rcp" rep to the other.

You could also attach the xref twice in model space
with the preface plan or rcp. Now you have two totally separate sets of layer
names.

I LOVE it!

I never thought about renaming an existing xref to
include a prefix so I can reattach it as a second xref and have independant
layer control!!!!

Thanx.

how do you attach the same xref twice? do you just do an "xref"-overlay two times into your model space of your sheet file and then what do you do? can I just rename the xref with the xref dialogue box? it's a bit unclear to me how to rename and attach an xref twice?

p.s....do I attach the same xref twice in the same coordinates or do I attach the second xref in a different coordinate.....say 200' in the y-axis or something like that?

Attach the xref, then rename it in the Xref manager. Now when you attach
the same file a second time, it will appear in the Layer Properties Manager
with a different set of layer names, which can be changed independently.

You can do either. If you attach them at different coordinates, you can use
viewports to mask out the appropriate instance. I prefer to keep data at
its correct location, so I place each xref on its own layer, and then use
viewport layer freeze to control which instance appears in which viewport.
As with blocks, if you freeze the layer an xref in inserted on, it will
freeze all of its imbedded layers.

thanks to all of you. if this works as you guys are suggesting, this will help me out a bunch. I've been having to create linework to represent my building graphics in other layers cause I couldn't figure out how to have the same xref with different names in the sheet file.......much thanks,
rob
