    Thanks for sharing your thoughts Claud. Falcon is actually solving the full N-S equations using the Finite Volume Method. A bit more info is available in the validation doc on the main labs page.

     

    We have received other requests for lift measures in addition to drag and are looking at it. Just curious about your question on moments. Would those be about the model origin, an axis specified by the user, or the aero center? Probably more than we would offer in a labs release but we are interested in knowing what would be helpful.

     

    Autodesk Simulation 360 includes Simulation CFD, which is a commercially available CFD code fit for users who are looking for more detail (moments, turb model options, run comparisons, etc) than we can provide in this Falcon labs release:

    Thanks for responding. I strongly encourage your team to get Cl (or Cz) and Moment Cm calculations included since the efficiency of a design can be better evaluated. These are just reference useful Falcon application as it is intented. For exact evaluations for science and engineering one should look at the other CFD offerings as you mention.

    The question of where the moment should be calculated is a great one. As long as there is a reference to the body size is OK. For practical purposes historically the airfoils are referred to the 25% chord and is a good one to use. I believe that, if you clariify that as a DEFAULT you are calculating at 25% LENGTH you are going to be fine, except for roll axis (X) or longitudinal (along the length axis) which should be centered to the symetry selected by designeer. Additionally, you could give the designer the choice of axes positions. The problem of calculating moments at the center of pressure (which is always moving) is more complicated for further analysis and unnecesarily so. It is also less effective at quickly recognizing variations in design... following the intent of the Falcon initiative.
