Hello wise and experienced AS7 people. I can't seem to get layers to work. I draw something on layer1. Then create layer2, make it current and add to the drawing. Same for layer3. When I switch back through all of the layers they all look the same. What am I doing wrong??

You can change the look of a layer (say the color or line style) in Graphic Option Layer.
If you want to draw on a different layer you will need to make that layer current. Same menu - change State.
If you change the color for each layer and then draw with color by layer you can see which layer each thing is on.

Once you have the layers added in the layer manager and have gone back
to the drawing area. Look at the Property Toolbar. This is the one with
the layer controls on it. You will see a long rectangle with the current
layer name in it. Just to the right of it is another button on the same
toolbar. This is the color button that sets the color of the objects you
are drawing. If you hit the pulldown arrow there will be a setting that
says By-Layer. Set it in place and then just keep an eye on which layer
is the current layer when you are drawing. If you do not do so then all
items will draw in the color that is shown in the color swatch below the
little paint brush. This also applies to linetypes and lineweights.
There are 2 other buttons to the right that control these settings . Set
both of those to BY-Layer and the lineweights and types will be active
depending on the current layer.
