Error message when placing a Symbol

When attempting to place a door symbol in a floor plan drawing, AS 10 returns the error message "Can't insert symbol because segment is too small". A search of Help and this forum didn't yield any results. Does anyone know what this means and how to correct it?

Hi KAE

There are different ways to enter a symbol. In the attached pic 1 is symbol point you can click and enter a point an dthe symbol is placed there, 2 the symbol requires the right opening width to insert the symbol. if your door is bigger than your opening the symbol will not be placed, when you click the symbol and insert symbol the bar activates at the top and tells you the width required to enter the symbol.

Or you can enter a symbol point and then move the symbol, and or scale as needed.

The procedure you describe does work, but it's different than how the placement of a door is described in the online tutorial, and different than how it actually works in the tutorial. It's also different than how it occasionally works in the program. In those cases, no opening is required. The placement of the door cuts an opening of the correct size in the line segment where the door is placed, or in the full depth of the wall, in the case of the tutorial. It's the inconsistency of how the program works that continues to puzzle me.

HI Kae

Its not that you need to have an opening in a line to place a symbol using import symbol. But the line has to be longer than the size of a door you are putting in it. Maybe the line you are using is too small or maybe the symbol is being scaled... after you click the symbol and hit insert symbol the edit bar chenges to show the width of the symbol and the scaling factor? Are you inserting the symbol onto a regular line?
