Is Autosketch 7 Compatible with Windows XP? If not is there a patch?

You are joking, I presume. Currently it seems you have to buy release 8
and find out. If it doesn't work then wait for release 9.

Joking apart, there should be a patch to support the known errors which
have been eagerly reported from around the world

Just had a good look at the info on the AD website regarding V8 and found
this:

"5.1 Which platforms does AutoSketch 8 support?
AutoSketch 8 provides support for Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows Me,
Windows 2000, and Windows XP."

So even if I wanted to pay £150 for the ability to draw clouds I would be
wasting my time because our accounting system won't tollerate Win98 or
higher on the network! Hurrah-arrrghhh, another product succumbing to the
Microsoft 'gun to head' upgrade system.

"1.3 Who is AutoSketch 8 intended for?
For the part-time drafter, occasional engineer, and home designer,
AutoSketch delivers an unbeatable combination of simplicity and drafting
horsepower."

Hmmmn I never did come accross an occasional engineer, is that someone who
'engineers' occasions such as weddings, funerals etc?

Today I am engineer, tonight I am janitor, tomorrow morning I am secretary,
tomorrow afternoon I am book keeper, Next day - maybe I be engineer again...

I go by ye olde saying ... 'Once an engineer - always an engineer'. Here's
something I wrote many years ago.



"Engineering is not just a job, but a perspective on life and the world
around us.

Looking at a super quality television provokes the following thoughts from
different types of people:

The artist type person - This TV looks really stylish.
The banker - I bet this TV costs alot.
Th salesman - This TV's really gonna make me rich
The pesimist - This TV's gonna blow up on me
The engineer - Where's my screwdriver - I wanna know how they did it!"



Btw I work for a small company and hence I would be what AD obviously
descibe as an 'Occasional Engineer'. Which hat will I be wearing today?
Let's take a look through the round window - bugger it looks like I got to
clean to the bogs *#!$.

AutoSketch 7 was released several years ago and
will not be tested for XP compatibility. AutoSketch 8 is specifically designed
for Windows XP.

I understand why you would not want to go to great expense testing
Autosketch 7 but since Autosketch 8 is specifically designed for Windows
XP and you advertise it suitable for lesser legacy OS can I suggest a
simple remedy to the Autosketch 7 dilemma. Issue a version of
Autosketch 8 with all the new features since Autosketch 7 not operable
and call it a patch update for Autosketch 7. That way Autodesk will
know the update is tested for Windows XP and all the loyal Autosketch
customers will have satisfaction they can upgrade their systems to XP
and also know the bugs in Autosketch 7 have been cleared.
Surely this would cost little effort and would win client confidence.

As an "occasional engineer" and being fully aware of Murphy's Law,
I would have avoided such an outburst of pride in our litigious
society.

knowing full well about architects lurking around with their
screwdrivers wanting to know if it is a one point-, two point-

P.S. Looked at your and your company's web site. Amazing about
your branch of Engineering. I only deal with structural,
mechanical, electrical and site engineers.
On the top left side of your web site it shows the current
EST in the US (my clock, thank God, is only off by 1 second)
Does your time clock show local time for every time zone around
the globe? How did you do that?

Graham,

Even if the cost was small, which it would not be, those developer resources
have since been reassigned to other projects. XP has a "Make Compatible"
feature that you might want to try. However, I want to be very clear that
Product Support and Autodesk in general does not warranty or support that
method. If you choose to try that route you would have to understand that
you are doing that at on your own and do not expect Autodesk to provide you
assistance. Rather, you should look to Microsoft to help with the "make
compatible" feature of Windows XP.
