How do I change to the AutoCad Classic view?  All the new buttons and jazz are great and look awesome, but I learned on an older version and learning the new layout of the program is proving too time consuming...In can 2009 there was a button at the bottom that allowed you to switch back to the "classic" version of the program...is there any way to do this in the new version for macs?

There is no "classic" mac look, so there is nothing to go back to (unless you mean the old port to mac back in the day): the format you see is all Apple.

AutoCAD Classic is in reference to the setting in the Windoze ACAD.  I am used to using ACAD on Windoze and therefore I would like to have the ability to use this "Classic" view so as to be able to be more productive.  The inabilty to have a "AutoCAD Classic" selection will severely limit the success of ACAD for MAC because potential  professional users typically don't have the time to learn what appears to be a completely different program.

"AutoCAD Classic" is one of the preset workspaces that Windows users can choose. AutoCAD for Mac has only one workspace, so it's a case of do-it-yourself.

That's the whole point, you are on a new platform. You are on an Apple/MAC PC, it already looks and acts differently and you're learning to use it differently. It's a stretch to then assume the Apple user is unable to grasp a new look that is quite similar to other graphics apps on Apple hardware only becuase they may or may not have been forced to use AutoCAD on Windows.

Actually, given Autocad's past, this is not a totally new platform (although the OS has changed through the years). Version 13 on the Mac was pretty close to the PC version. Most everything (menus, files, etc) was compatible cross platform. Now that the Mac has an Intel base, you'd think that tie similarities would be even closer.

When I use cross-platform applications, I expect them to run pretty much the same between them. The limited capabilities of Autocad for Mac is disappointing. Especially when they charge so much for it. For what we get, the price should be 1/10th what they charge, or even free just to draw people in.

However, I just hope that this release is a very preliminary offering and that they eventually get it on par with the PC version.

Yeah, I consider this to be a HUGE INCONVENIENCE.

I am a college student learning autocad, and I downloaded my 3 year trial version from autodesk, only to find it completely useless as I am being taught on PC at school.

You would think they would get it together and offer a 'skin' or something to give us mac users the option of classic view, without all the flaky floating windows that are so distracting.

All three of my cad teachers have told me that autocad mac is a waste of my time. At this moment i've been in the lab at school for 7 hours working on a midterm, while everyone else is working at home.

HAD I KNOWN that this was going to be an issue, I would not have wasted my student trial on the mac version, and bought a cheap PC for home use and installed it on that.

Really peeved. To me this is a no-brainer, you guys should fix this.

thanks.

You CAN run the PC version on the Mac's Bootcamp or via Parallels (which is what I am using). If you have a Mac, you don't need to buy a PC to run Autocad.
