Problems with Layers Palette in AutoCad 2011 for Mac

Hi,

For a long time, I have been experiencing a problem with Layers Palette.  After using the program for a while, the palette becomes unresponsive.  For example, if I change the color of a layer, try to hide or freeze a layer, or delete a layer, nothing happens.  No matter how many times I try nothing changes. The only way to fix this problem is to save the file, close down the program, and restart.  Most of the times, after I restart the problem is fixed, but at times I've to close down a few times.

I am not sure if anybody else has had a similar problem too or not.  I am using the latest version of 2011 for Mac on a 4-year old MacBook (with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 Gb of ram) that runs Mountain Lion version 10.8.2.  I had the same problem with Lion too; I also have the same issue on my office iMac with 8 Gb of ram and quad processor.

I appreciate if somebody gets back to me.  It is becoming very annoying to have to close the program so many times!

Thanks in advance for your time and response!

Hi,

I'm afraid this problem in AutoCAD 2011 for Mac wouldn't be fixed at all. AC 2011 for Mac officially supported only on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion, and it seems to me, that the current latest SP3 for AC 2011 will be the last update for this release.

Thanks for you reply.  I had the same problem even under Lion.  I am not sure if OS is the problem.  Have you run into a similar problem?

never had this problem in any of the versions.  currently using 2013.  I have noticed in all versions that the longer you keep autocad open, the more and more RAM it consumes and the more unstable it seems to become.  If you are keeping the program open for a long time - say for example when you leave for the day, or go to bed you don't quit the program - then it gets really flaky.

The problem seems to have been solved in 2014.  I believe the earlier versions hadn't been fully fleshed out.

Thank you so much for your quick reply.
I have been considering ungrading my hardware, my old macbook has been my
on-sight construction computer for the pass 4 years and has seen better
days. I will ungrade to 2014 when I replace the Macbook.

thanks again for the quick reply.
Kudos!
Sincerely,

Michael
