Mtext does not consistently recognize "t" character.

I am finding that when adding text in MText, the "t" character is not being consistently recognized.

While this could be a glitch with my keyboard, this error does not happen in any other software application. This problem also does not happen while typing this note.

So if you swap keyboards, the problem remains? You won't really know until you do so.

Also, what font are you using that is skipping the T character?

Thanks for your reply.

Your suggestions to switch keyboards and try different fonts were all very wise ideas. wish one/several had solved the problem.]

I tried MTEXT with a new keyboard, but could not detect improved behavior.

Copied and pasted text from dwg file to show examples of the problem:

This is a sample of how MTEXT is behaving with the font Arial:

now is the time for all good men o come o he aid of their country.

This is a sample of how MTEXT is behaving with the font Geneva:

now is the time for all good men o come o he aid of heir country.

This is a sample of how MTEXT is behaving with the font Times:

now is he time for all good men o come o the aid ofheir country.

[note that the space between the words of and their dropped out as well, which is infrequent but does sometimes occur when typing a "t".]

Any chance you can type all of that, as stated, in a DWG file and share it with your fellow MAC users in this forum?

On my System it's OK:

@jclagett1:

Are you using some kind of font management utilities on your Mac?

Sorry, I received a message from pendean this morning, asking me to attach a dwg file with examples of the problems I'm encountering. I suppose I could have linked it to earlier posts.
Regarding font management utilities; my Mac manages its fonts through what Apple calls "Fontbook".

OK, I see - noting special.
Have you tried to restart your Mac?
What happens if you use SHX font files for text style?

To the best of my knowledge, neither my Mac Mini or Apple laptop have third party keyboard managers.

Do you want to say, that you have such issue on two Macs you have at hand?

Did you type text inside MTEXT command, or paste it from clipboard?

Does this issue also occurs when you are using DTEXT command?

What happens if you paste text from clipboard with option "Paste Special->Paste Without Any Formatting" from context menu inside MTEXT command?

Hello Maxim,

Thanks for your assistance. Sorry this is proving so onerous.

Replying to your queries.

Note:

Red = your questions.

Blue italic = my replies/comments.

Do you want to say, that you have such issue on two Macs you have at hand?
Yes. I was also making the point that because both of my Macs are having the same problem, it would seem that this not a hardware, but a software problem.

Did you type text inside MTEXT command, or paste it from clipboard?

Good idea. Just completed a series of tests, in which I pasted text into MText from three word processing applications. None of the "t"s dropped out.
Does this issue also occurs when you are using DTEXT command?

Yes, using DTEXT has the same problem.
I should point something I just noticed. If I type very, very slowly, MTEXAT and DTEXT are able to process the key stroke inputs with far less errors. WHile one could surmise I'm a bad typist, but the speed in which I type while in Microsoft Word, Safari, etc. doesn't lead to dropped "t" characters.
What happens if you paste text from clipboard with option "Paste Special->Paste Without Any Formatting" from context menu inside MTEXT command?

My relative inexperience with Autocad is getting in the way of responding to your last question; sorry. I'm not familiar with the Autocad terms "clipboard" or "context menu".
Nonetheless, when I copy text from one MTEXT block [if this is the correct term] to another, none of the text, including the malcontent "t"s, drop out. The problem appears limited to when text is generated within MTEXT through keystrokes.

Two observations:
1 Could the version of my operating system [Snow Leopard; 10.6.8] be playing a part in this?
2 While typing within MTEXT, the characters appear to?how can I put it??vibrate or shake. Perhaps this is a telltale symptom.

Thanks again.

1. Could not be a problem, I think.
2. Do not understand your question, sorry

Re. second item.
Probably unimportant.
I was just pointing out that MTEXT characters move back and forth slightly as I type. I recall reading that such motions can be a sign of a software/hardware problem.

OK, I see.
As about the issue with dropped T - really don't know.
BTW: could you provide hardware specs of your Macs?

Not an "extreme", but could be suitable to run AutoCAD on basic level without "letter glitches"

A test: assign a text style in your file an SHX font like Simplex, make that style active, then type in DTEXT and MTEXT. Any Ts get dropped?
