In my book it says to add a layer to click the plus sign + at the bottom of the Layers Palette. But my Layers Palette does not look like the book. There is only a search box at the bottom. No + or - signs.
I've searched the internet and this forum. I've hovered my mouse over every icon on the dialog. I can't find a way to add a layer.

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums!
At first you have to expand Layers palette (if you have not done so before):
Then pick on New Layer icon:

Thank you. i'm not sure how I missed that icon. Now I fear that this is an indication of my aptitude for CAD use. Thank goodness this is a hobby and I don't have to make a living from working at CAD. Although I do retire soon and if I do decide to find part-time work at drafting I would go back to school for training first. But until this I will keep at these books.
I am having such a dumb moment which has actually been hours of frustration over what seems so easy! I can see where it says 'new layer' which is a plus sign on mine. But I click on it and nothing happens. Do I need to select something first or is there some obvious trick that I'm missing? Please help!!!
Are you are using AutoCAD 2012?
What OS do you have on your Mac?
On my side it looks OK on 10.8.5 (see attached screenshot) - I don't have "+" button on Layers palette.
Have you tried to reinstall AutoCAD?
Maxim
Yours does look the same. When you add a new layer though, I'm assuming you hit the add button & under the '0' layer would have a new row with the new layer, correct?
I'm using CAD 2010 on OS X.
I guess I'll try reinstalling.
Thanks
Thanks Maxim. I turned on Ortho Mode & the layers appeared! I knew it would be something obvious that I just didn't know about...
I appreciate your help. CAD is hard to learn.
