File Won't Open

Hi,

I was working on an AutoCAD drawing, finished, saved and closed out of the file. When I went to XREF it into a nother document, I noticed it would not work. I tried then to open it normally (both in AutoCAD itself and via my computer's hard drive) each time something flashes as if the file is about to open, but nothing appears. I am using the MAC version, and the preview shows up in my Finder, so it must be there but I can't access it at all. I've shut down AutoCAD completely but still no luck.

Any ideas? I'm using the  2013 student version for MACs and I attached the file if its helpful at all.

Thanks so much in advance,

Adena

Hi Adena,

Have you tried to start AutoCAD, type RECOVER command at Command window, and select your file in Open file dialog? With this command you can try to repair damaged drawing.

Maxim

Hi Adena,

I managed to recover your file in Windows version of AutoCAD, see attached DWG.

Maxim -

Thank you so much for your help!

I'm so appreciative for your time. Any idea what it could have been or how I can attempt to avoid this in the future?

Many thanks again,

Adena

Hi Adena,

It is very difficult to predict such cases (file corruption). Furthermore the inability to recover this file looks more like a bug (defect) in AC 2013 for Mac.

Anyway, you should know the exact location of .BAK files and how to open them in AutoCAD.

I think also you can always ask for help here on the Forum.

I am having the exact same problem as the person above. I've tried the recover command and that isn't working. I will attach the file.

Are you unable to use RECOVER command to open the file? Opens fine here with that command.

Hi Ismajl,

Why do you think that not all layers are opened in the file?
Maybe they are frozen or turned off?

Maxim
