AutoCAD 2013 Installation Failure Mac OS X 10.8.5

At the end of the Install message appears "INSTALLATION FAILED. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." All files load and appear in finder however when I click to launch the application I get this message "You can’t open the application AutoCAD 2013.app because it may be damaged or incomplete." I have tried multiple times with both trial version and student version. Have also deleted all previous versions, reciepts, and library files. There was one instance when the install completed successfully however when I went to launch the application I got the same message again as when the installation failed. No idea what is wrong. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Could you provide Console messages during installation?
Have you tried to create new account with admin privileges on you Mac and run installation from this new account?

Attached is a copy of the log file. I havent tried it on another account although my account is the only one and has root permission.

I think the main case is in fact that you are using root account, and something goes wrong with sudoers file.
So I recommend you to use ordinary (not root) admin account to install AutoCAD.

Tried with and without root (and admin), same issue. I attached another log with a few more lines at the start that got cut off before. Thanks for your input by the way.

Sorry, but there is no attachment in your last post.
But, definitely there are some troubles with user (even root) permissions on your Mac.
Try to search over Internet "can't open /private/etc/sudoers : Permission denied" you will find a lot of solutions for this problem, maybe one of them could help you.

And also verify that you are using correct installer. The name of installation image file should be "AutoCAD_2013_English_Mac_OSX_R1.dmg"

I can see that you have been having the same problems as me re. the installation failure.

Did you manage to get anywhere with it?

I'm also trying to install AC2013 on 10.8.5 but having no luck.

Hi Maxim,

Problem solved!   Thanks so much...

If anyone else is having the same problem here's what to do:

- Enable ROOT USER (here's how: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528)

- Log in as your new ROOT USER

- Open Terminal and type: chmod g+x /

- Close Terminal and log out of the ROOT USER and back in to your standard Admin user

- At this point it is advised to disable the ROOT USER account.  As you don't want anyone in there messing it up!

- Install Autocad.....it should now work!!

This totally makes sense, but did not help me at all.  Am I missing a step?  Still installation fails, I think I've tried everything.  Running Mac OSX 10.7.5, trying to install AutoCad 2013, because 2014 needs higher operating system.  Any help would be appreciated.

I did all the things listed above;  I logged out and logged back in as "root" and opened the Terminal.  I typed in the following:

> su root

> chmod g+x/

>exit

when I logged back in as myself and tried the installation again, it still failed.

I went back and forth logging in and out to access the Terminal as root user, making sure everything had uninstalled before I would try it again.

I tried logging in my computer as "root" and then logging on to Terminal as myself, but that didn't work.

I then tried (in Terminal as root) to type in:

>su root

>chmod g+x/private

>chmod g+x/private/etc

>exit

When I did this, a message came up, and I cannot quite remember exactly how it was worded, but it said that the process was successful.  I thought that would have done the trick, but I logged back in as me and tried the install again and it failed.  

Then I thought maybe it was because AutoCad 2012 is still on my computer.  I uninstalled EVERYTHING AutoCad and repeated all of the above steps.

Any suggestions?

You should not have to experiment with the root user account without experience, even more try installing AutoCAD on behalf of the root user (AutoCAD installation doesn't like this).

You forgot one important step - disable root account on your Mac after you repaired sudo command with "chmod g+x /"

Furthermore, you tried this sequence of commands:

>su root

>chmod g+x/private

>chmod g+x/private/etc

>exit

without understanding their meaning.

I'm afraid you need to reinstall whole system if you want to proceed with AutoCAD installation.

As last attempt you can try to disable root user account as described here:

Repair permissions with Disk utility and try to install AutoCAD again.
