AutoCAD 2011 for Mac (Education): Problem creating an STL file

I am trying to create an stl file. When I go to export and choose stl, no file is generated. I also tried In the top left of the Screen, changing 2D wireframe to Realistic, and then exporting. This time I got a dwg and not an sti. It is attached. Maybe that is what is supposed to happen, but I don't have next steps? Please advise. Thanks

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

There is no attachment in your post Smiley Sad

Do you absolutely sure, that you are using AutoCAD 2011?

What OS do you have on your Mac? A'm asking about this because AC 2011 is compatible only with 10.5.8, 10.6.X and 10.7.X

Plus with STLOUT you can export only solids and watertight meshes ("closed" meshes) from the drawing, all other objects will be ignored.

Hello,

Thanks for the prompt response. I am using 10.7.x.
I don't know how to use STLOUT and I don't understand what "closed meshes"
are.

I'm working with a student and neither of us has used AutoCAD before. We
do have AutoCAD2011. We're trying to export as stl so that we can bring it
to the high school and use another app to render it for a 3D printer.

Can you talk to me like a beginner?

Thanks,
Sarah

STLOUT is the command for exporting STL files from AutoCAD.
And watertight mesh is AutoCAD Mesh object without holes in it.
Could you post here one of your DWG files you are trying to export to STL?
If you have troubles with attachments- compress DWG before attaching to the post.

I don't understand, I can see it attached and the file size before pressing
Send.

I put it in my google Drive and shared it. Does this work? I can use
DropBox too if that is a better option?

I don't have AC 2011, but in AC 2014 I was able to export your DWG to STL file. See attached ZIP archive

Maxim,

I don't see an attachment.
Also, can you tell me how you did it so that I won't need to be dependent
for the next one? I realize it could be different due to the version
difference. But it might give me a clue.

Thanks,

Here is the attachment from my side:

I did it as usual, from menu File -> Export -> select STL file type from the list of file types, than give the name to the file, pick OK, select objects you want to export, hit Return.

Maxim,

I still did not get your attachment. There must be an issue between your
mail and mine since you did not receive my attachments either. Can you
Google Drive or DropBox it to me?

Thanks,
Sarah

Maxim,

You are amazing. Thank you SO much. You've made the day of one 5th
grader. Hopefully we can figure this out for 2011 before he finishes with
the next piece.

Thanks again.
