Adding a detail view

Hello.

I am trying to get a detail view of a construction im making. Its a truss bridge and i would like some details of some specific parts, for example the connection to a tower its bolted to.

I am trying the DETVIEW command in 'edition layout' but when i go through the command it ends up with saying "Application ERROR: There are no viewports avaliable to create Detail view".

Am i making something wrong, can you not make detailed views of a created drawing? Or how do i make an viewport available?

Thanks!

Also, using the 'ADDVIEW' command doesnt work either. When i choose what i want with first and second corner the program addes the whole structure to a new view, just zoomed in on the place i choose. To make it more frustrating it resets all my measurements done to the structure in the edition layout.

And the 'ADDETAILVIEW' command does basicly nothing. I choose what i want to see with first and second corner and it just creates a few lines and some measurements. When i try to adjust the style under the view created it shows the whole structure again and deletes the original view.

Is there anyway i can just "rectangle" in the area i want as an detail in a bigger scale?

to add a detail view, you have to first create the "document" with the detial view available.  Let say that you took your model and did a group on it, now to create the documents with the group, you right click, attach document.  Those views listed, none of them have a "detail" view out of the box.

First, click on the Templates layout tab at the bottom of the screen

From the inspector, goto the Templates Tab and find Group - top view (or side view etc), double click it to make it active (yellow) and then expand it out.  Inside there you will see Top view only (for example) and the drawing screen will update to show a single viewport

Right click on the Group -top view, and click add view

From the dialog, select Cross-Section/Details view., give it a name, then click OK.  This will add a new viewport, ready for you to position, to the template.  Add as many as you need.  Word to the wise, try not to overlap them.  Resize them as needed.

Once you have all your view in place, go back to the Edition layout, and add a new document using your new template (Group - Top View) and you'll notice that the original still populates, but now you have open slots to do the other views.

Let me know if you have any other questions, or if anything doesn't make sense.

Sorry to drag up a 6 month old thread but I am having some problems creating a section view.

I follow how to add documents and create templates. The problem is when I attach a document and use the new template I created with a "Cross Section/Details View" view in it the viewport is blank and has nothing in it. It doesnt matter if I have a Top and Front view or not.

How do you define where/how the cut is made?

I must be missing something-

Thanks

Jess
