Here's a bit of a curveball. I installed a standalone license of the Plant Design Suite Ultimate software package on a machine, and everything will install but Structural Detailing. I spent 2 whole days messing with this thing. It doesn't matter what service pack level is installed, on what partition it's installed, on whether or not I "Run as Administrator," on whether or not I install it together as a suite or separately, on whether I installed from the original flsh stick, downoaded suite, or downloaded Structural Detailing stand alone media--Structural Detailing fails. It just gives that generic Microsoft 1712 error that can be found associated with dozens of failed installations.
The only way it DOES install is if AutoCAD 2013 is not installed at all. For whatever reason AutoCAD, the plain vanilla version of AutoCAD, not mechanical or some other type but just AutoCAD, cannot be installed at the same time that Structural Detailing is installed. My guess is that because AutoCAD is a subset of Structural Detailing, Windows loses its mind and doesn’t know how to handle installing two of the same installations.
The only reason I found that out is because one of my draftsmen wanted to have network licensed Structural Detailing on his machine that is already running a standalone Factory Design Suite Premium 2013, which comes with AutoCAD Mechanical. I warned him that the installation will most likely fail based on my recent experience with the incompatibility between AutoCAD and Structural Detailing. But it made me into a liar and installed without a hitch. I then installed it on machines running Product Design Suite Standard 2012 and AutoCAD 2012 and had no problem at all. BUT when I went to install it on a machine with AutoCAD 2013 I was back to the same 1712 error as before.
As a side note, all of these machines are built with the same Win7Pro syspreped image on Seagate 7200RPM HDDs,16GB RAM or higher, Nvidia Quadro 4000 GPU or higher, Intel DQ77MK motherboard and Intel i5 3570K processor. So I know hardware is not the issue at all.
