vector to raster color change

When I merge vector polylines into a raster image, all the polylines become
a shade of gray. Why don't they retain the correct colors? Seems like my
polylines are being converted into grayscale colors. Is that because the
image I'm merging into is grayscale?

Just discovered I had to change the Color Depth under Image - Image
Processing. Don't remember having to do this before.

You can also use RPENS to configure the pen colors & pixel width

Oh yeah, it also depends on the image format. It could be 8-bit or
greyscale...
