CUI needs to be read/write?

I have the AecCo.CUI and MNR files for Raster Design 2008 on the network in a read-only folder to prevent users from accidentally or purposely modifying them. However, when I attempt to edit a CUI file that loads it as partial, I get a "file is read-only" warning - a sign that something is being changed.

Is there a requirement that the Raster Design 2008 CUI file needs to be in a read/write location? What is it trying to change?

It is warning you that, IF you make changes, you will not be able to
save them.

I don't get the same warning for other read-only partially loaded CUI's, though.
