Text with a white background

I am placing text above raster images and other external refrences. It is hard to see the text, so I am trying to put a white box behind it. Adding another refrence (for the white box) is too much hassle. A friend of mine recalls a text command that allows you to do this.

I am using r14.

Thanks

I have the same issue but I’m using AutoCAD 2013,

All what I need is a no color or white background for the text such that the background will hide whatever below it

Sounds that AutoCAD doesn’t have white color or no color option

In case of dimensions, this is quite simple!

How this issue might be handled?

Yes it does, pick the last option 'select color' from the drop down in the background mask dialogue, that should open up the standard color pick options, and you can choose white from that, or tick the option for 'use drawing background color'

Many thanks Steven,

  • Providing white color background will provide it as black (as the background of my display is chosen to be white)

  • Then I think that the only option I have is to tick the option “use drawing background color” as you have already advised

  • How to apply this option at the style level! I couldn’t find this option there!

  • How to apply this background for an EXISTING attribute definition (living within a block)

Take a look at this http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?24298-Attribute-w-Background-Mask

it will mean editing your blocks but should get you the results you want

Many thanks steven-g.

The link you have already sent solved part of my question

  1. How to give the text style a particular background?

As far as I can see there is no way to add background color in the text style itself. It may be worth asking in the LISP forum to see if anyone there could help you.
