Autocad R12+ new graphics card

Hello everyone!

I am currently running Autocad R12 (DOS version). My graphics card is a Matrox Graphics Millenium II PCI. I was wondering if I could use a newer compatible to R12 graphics card (with more memory on it) instead of this 4MB card... Thanx in advance for your advice!

Why?

Unless the manufacturer specifically lists DOS driver support on their
website or their product box/literature, you are out of luck seeing any
performance gain with R12 in DOS. You can find out that info by visiting and
contacting many of them through their websites.

Well actually I don't wanna change my graphics card coz I want to improve autocad's performance.. The thing is that this 4MB graphics card is kinda limiting to the other apps I wanna run on my pc.

ps: can the graphics limit the performance of a 20'' lcd screen? coz i recently bought a Hyundai and I have the suspicion it doesnt perform at its best..

RAM on a video card has nothing to do with being able to use a 20" LCD.

What other apps? what version of Windows do you use? What are your PC specs?

Ooooook.. I m running Autocad R12 from DOS, but I normally run Win XP.. I was referring to more demanding applications like games etc... The thing is I had a normal RAM video card, but Autocad couldn't start up (like 2-3 years ago when I bought my pc).. Then, since I am not an expert on those issues, the technician came up with the idea of installing a much older (nearly antique :P) video card to make it work- and it did.. So since then I ve been running Autocad in that way, without any problems.. Today I received my new LCD monitor, which is the following..

http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/tft-monitor/hyundai-x224wa/

I noticed I can't get high sharpness like in my previous 17'' TFT (sorry for my previous mistake), in Autocad and Win XP too .. My theory was that maybe my graphics card was not good enough to keep up with the screen's resolution... So my next move was to look for newer drivers. I found them and installed them but WinXP cant start up after that :S Any suggestions? Did i buy a crap screen??

Your AutoCAD is too old: that's the problem. There is no fix, you need to
decide which is more important, DOS AutoCAD or Windows and games.

There are cheap and low cost cad programs out there if you cannot afford
AutoCAD, Autodesk even makes one. They run in Windows and run circles around
R12Dos.

You are trying to run old gear with old software
with old drivers in a newer OS and a newer display.

Do yourself a favor: there are cheap CAD programs
than run circles around R14 that do dwg good enough that run just fine with new
hardware and OS.

Quit trying to hurt yourself and spending pointless
money with R14.
