I've discovered something a bit odd to me. Recently we've had a LARGE
number slowness problems with AutoCAD. It took me a long time of comparing
and trying to figure out what was different between my text computer, and
the Users workstations that can cause slowness in drawings. My test
computer was setup with AutoCAD, a digitizer, and the same custom menu used
by the employees. The only difference is they create copies of the AutoCAD
shorcut and change the Start In property to the various folders they want
AutoCAD to open the dialog box for for Open and Save.
One icon will be setup for P:\ which contains project folders (600+). If
set to this, our menu commands and such run MUCH MUCH slower, that the
standard AutoCAD folder.
It seems to me that AutoCAD uses the Start In property almost as if it's the
first item in the Support Directory search.
It doesn't search recursively, which is a bonus.
Our job folders are setup in the following manor:
P:\
arch
dwgs
engr
pics
etc....
some people set the Start In for the dwgs folder specifically. On smaller
jobs, this isn't a problem, but some jobs contain hundreds of files in the
dwgs directory (which can slow down some commands as much a 5 secs every
time the command is run).
Is there another option out there for setting the open/save dialogs on first
start to specific folders other than using the Start In property?
Thanks in advanced
