    Unique TAG No.!!!!!!!!!! Please help

I have had to delete existing drawings in a project and redraw but when I input the valve tag numbers it states please use a unique valve numer as the number is alread allocated in the project.   When I have a look in my data manager there is no record of these tags, I have noticed replies stating to edit the tag after it is placed but this results in a question mark appearing as the tag is a duplicate.

Please help me as this is frustrating and holding my work load back when I have tight deadlines to meet

    thanks

    Hi Andy,

Try running the Audit Project command from the Project Manager.  This should remove any unreferenced data from your project database and release the tags that you are trying to use.

    Thanks Andy

I have tried this so many times and purged the drawing also with no result it is completly baffleing me.

I believe others have had this problem and have had no sucess

I have 18 very busy P&IDs with this issue with a tight deadline and there is no time for redraw.

    Cheers

    Hi,

How are you you 'deleting' your drawings ready to start again?  Are you removing them from the project and adding them again or are you selecting the contents of the drawings and erasing everything?

One thing you could try as a last resort, is to create a new project using your current project as a template and then copy your existing drawings in to your new project?  Just a thought.

The drawings are being copied from another project as the area is exactly the same so rather than redraw I am bringing in what I have created before but when I open the project manager every instrument turns to no target and all valves and equiptment turn to a standard symble with no properties. so I have deleted all valves and symbols and replacing them with new ones then it has the conflicting tag numbers.

    hope this makes sense

    cheers

    Hi,

If you are simply copying the drawings over the top of the originals using Windows Explorer then I suspect that you are confusing the project manager big time as none of the database references in the new file will be valid - hence the no target errors.

You need to remove the drawings that you want to update from the project, then use the Copy Drawing to Project command in Project Manager to copy the 'new' drawings.  Alternatively, wblock out the contents of the 'new' drawings, erase the contents of the 'old' drawings and then insert and explode the wblock'ed drawings into the drawings you are updating.

    Andy
