Turning on x-ref layers and then update Otho view fail

I have a Plant 3D-model with an xref of a building in it which I made of Autocad solids. When I want to update a view to get the grate and a wall, it does not stick there after I've updated the view, and it doesn't appear in the view either. And if I go into the view again the layers are turned off again. Why is this?

Image 1. Ortho cube. With grate and wall layers off

Image 2. Ortho cube. With grate and wall layers on

Image 3. Finished view. Beams and some other building layers are visible från the xref, but the layers I wanted to turn on is not.

I found a solution after some seraching on google. I had to turn on the layers in the xref-model file. Then update the xref in my plant model and then update my view to get every layer I wanted.

It makes sense in one way that I first must turn on the layers I want active in my xref. But it would be nice to control that only from my view. Especially if someone else is working on my xref.
