Student Version Problems w/AutoCAD Plant 3D 2013

There is a problem with the Student Version of Plant 3D 2013.  The program will throw an exception error with the following message.

When creating a new P&ID file.

Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application.  If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Filer error

When entering Project Setup

Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application.  If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Error Decrypting Data

I saw an question in Ask The Expert for Lori Wu on 6/19/2012 that this problem has been identified and Autodesk is working on it; however, I have seen messages for this problem since 3/2012.

How can we find out the status of this problem and if a fix has been identified?

Thanks.

I am having this problem not only on my home computer, but on 2 computers at school as well.  I have looked everywhere for a solution to this problem with no success, and have even called Autodesk only to get denied of help because I am a student and not a registered user.  This program is completely unusable since you cant create a new drawing from any component in project manager.  Autodesk, please find a solution to this problem.

Does this happen on new Projects, or just the Sample one already installed?

Hi!

I get the same problem every time when I am opening the program.

Attached the error.

I scanned whole computer, I installed on another one, tried version 32 also on a 64 still same error. Should I try a cracked version 🙂  to end all possibilities ? ( please read it as a joke :)) ).

Now seriously is any fix for this ?

It happens on any project. You cannot create any type of new drawing without getting the error. I'm using the trial version right now and it works perfectly.

I am an instructor in Texas and all of my students are experiencing the same issue.  We are more than halfway through a semester, and the curriculum is tough without the ability to be able to work from home.  I experienced, personally with the student version, an exception after I opened my project and went to start a new drawing.  Any drawing, P&ID or Plant 3D.  So it isn't just the default project that is the issue.  Our projects work fine on campus, but not at home.  Please advise if there is a possible hot fix or any kind of solution.

Thanks,

Donna

Check the solution for other similar post. It had already been answered before. This is caused by popup message that appears everytime you open a clean dwg. You will need to open and save all the template and pss manually using the student version. I have also blog about this some time ago.

Thank you for your assistance with this problem.  As a student, however, I am not yet familiar with all of the ins and outs of this program and am unsure how to implement the fix you suggested in your blog.

Could you please supply some step-by-step instructions for implementing this fix.

Thank you.

First, search for ProjectSymbolStyle.dwg in the Project Directory. Open that drawing and save it.

After that, go to Project Setup. In P&ID, Plant 3D and Isometric DWG Settings, under Path and it should show you all the DWT files in the Project. Open all these DWT files and save it.

Generally, all templates is located here.

%localappdata%\Autodesk\AutoCAD Plant 3D 2013 - English\R19.0\enu\Template

If you don't understand any of the terms, you can look it up in the help files.

Thanks for that! If anyone has problems locating ProjetSymbolStyle.dwg, mine was actually titled projSymbolStyle.dwg. It was definitely in the root of the project folder.
