Structural Modeling

Just downloaded and installed 2010 AP3D and am interested in the structural portion of it. I would have assumed that you could rotate and specify Section orienation (Beta Angle) and justification by attributes/properties but see that this is not available.

Also have the following questions:

1. Is this package not intended for detail modeling of structural steel (bracing, connections, gusset plates, etc)?
a. If no, what Autodesk product is recommended?
2. If we use, for instance, STAAD.Pro, how do we get the STAAD model imported?
3. How do we add double angles and additional justification points to the catalog?

For the question 3:
1. We could add angle member one by one
2. But we can't add additional justification points.

For the orientation and justification you can set this in the Member Settings and Modify Member.

answers for questions:
1. the structural feature is not intended for creating detail models. It's intent is to show design intent with standard members.
a. Revit is and excellent structural detailing software
2. currently there is only abiltiy to Export to SDNF
3. currently we don't offer an ability to add shapes to the catalogs. you can move the justification points in Member Settings or Modify Members in Horizontal and Vertical fields

I live in Australia where we have our own standard for structural steel, How are people here supposed to use Plant 3D if it's not possible to add steel standards to it?

I fully understand this is not Structural Detailing Software.

But in Plant Design the Structure model is just as important as the Piping, regarding access, support, clash check, etc.

However only 3 versions of Steel Section Standards are listed, American, Canadian and German DIN Steel Shapes.

Although it would be nice to have included a few more Standard Steel Shapes....such as BS, JIS, EU, etc. I can accept this hasn't been done...yet.

However, I would have thought there would be a ready alternative to included Steel Standards and it would be easy to insert any Steel Structural Shapes to complement another countries Steel Standard as required - in this case Australian Standard Steel Sections data....

Is this possible at all - to insert custom Steel Standard shapes - such as AS Steel Sections, etc?

I have found that the structural shapes table has a problem with WT shapes. The depth/width are backwards.. Is there a way to modify the table?
