Section Box tool require in Plant3d

As similar to section box in Revit, Plant3d also requires section box. To carryout piping inside closed building and for using xref's this function is very important one. Unless the function is available, the software cannot be used for larger capacity projects. Attached image will give a clarity about Section box.

The section shall be moved, and can be stretched. The objects inside the box will be visible.

Type 3DCLIP in the command line.

3d clip is not a correct solution. You please try both revit section box and 3d clip and let me know here.

3d clip is only for single object. This will not be suitable for Plant3d application.

The great advantage of section box in revit is, you can move the box and stretch. The items inside the box only will be visible.

Revit section box is a plugin available for free for Revit.

For clipping XREF's, there is XREFCLIP. You'll just have to use a combination of the two commands to see what you need, or use layers to freeze/thaw what you want to see or not see.

I feel you are trying to defend what is available. The available is not the correct solution. Unless you people understand the requirement, the product improvement will be difficult.

Xref Clip is the function available in AutoCAD mainly for 2d xref drawings.

You will not be have good control on that in 3d.

Why not you try the Revit section box and Xref clip. You will understand.

I am struggling here for the improvement of the software. You are the people who should actively take up the things to the development. When you start try to convince what is available which cannot be operated, then the development of the software will go down, that will not be a healthy environment to the product and to your company.

I understand, but I am offering a workaround until something is developed. Until that point in time, 3DCLIP and XREFCLIP are the way to do what you want.

Thanks for providing the workaround, the workaround should not be a permanent solution. As xref clip and clip3d are the functions meant for 2d. Please take with your development a enhancement list, a section box require in plant3d will help all the users of Plant3d.

Hi yes , Exactly , also i think revit Align performance Must Attend To 3d plant

1. Create a navisworks .nwc/nwd model

2. Create a new drawing

3. xref it into that drawing via Attach Coordination Model... in the xref panel

4. xref that drawing into your plant drawing

5. draw a rectangle polyline where you want the clipping

6. XCLIP --> New Boundry --> Select Polyline

7. erase polyline

8. move grips of xclip's polyline to change section view

You can set your ucs to whatever clip direction you need prior to xclip.

This is what we use, if you need it live then xref in the items you need into the other drawing and repeat the process.  We use a .nwc/.nwd because we have thousands of drawings xref'd in and it would just be too slow otherwise.

3D-Plant really needs a similar tool as the "section box" Revit has. I have been struggling a while with Plant now and it really sucks in compare with Revit.

this function is not available in plant3d. The AutoCAD core is not suitable for 3d opereations as this one. You can try to reference your dwg into dwf. In NavisWorks you can do your sections like you mentioned.
