Has anyone tried this?  Using a SQL query and editing of the data rather than using the Data Manager to Excel and back again method?  Pros and cons?  Can it be done?  Thanks for any input.

Have you referenced About Configuring External Databases yet? I am not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for though. Of course, if you are making adjustment to any database files make sure you are backing update database files before changes are made.
