Plant 3-d drawing crashing maybe due to Fasteners

Hello,

We have a drawing that is crashing often.  When we tried to do an audit, it couldn't proceed and gave us a eNullObjectID error.  We started erasing parts of the drawing to see where this error was coming from.  We found the item that seemed to do it and we earsed it.  Then, we could do an audit (0 errors fixed when it did work).  The drawing still crashed but less often.  We will open the drawing after a crash it says the are 8 orphaned fasteners.  It runs _.removeOrphanFasteners and says 0 are fixed.  Please give us some suggestions.  I think the problem is the orphaned fasteners but we cannot find them.
