How to make the pipe rest on BOP on the beam structure?

I want to route a pipe from the pump to the top of the beam with BOP resting on the beam without knowing what elevation to input in. How can I do that?

Current method

I pull out a pipe then I key in .x(depending on the ucs) to key in my height that I want to go to.

2. I snap to the top of the beam.

3. Then I key in .yz which I click to my current start point.

4. The piping result will be as shown below whereby the pipe will go the elevation that I want.

The problem that I faced now is, I want the bop to go to top of beam, not the COP. i already set the pipe to use BOP.

How can I solve this?

Hi,

I can't think of a way to do what you want in a single step.  However, you could try the following which involves a few extra mouse clicks, but not too many.

Draw the vertical riser as you are doing, but terminate the pipe route command at the top of the pipe.

Fig 1

Turn off Offset Connect from the ribbon

Fig 2

Start to route pipe again from the open end of the riser across the beam.  This will be at the correct elevation using BOP.

Fig 3

To connect the 2 pipes: turn on Offset Connect again on the ribbon

Fig 4

Shorten the header pipe to provide room for an elbow then simply use the routing grip to join up the pipes.

Job done...

It's a couple of extra steps, but will do the trick.

Any simpler and direct method than above would be better.

I use the Compass to route BOP on TOS.  I set my 'Elevation & Routing' to TOP or BOP, depending on the direction of the compass.  Then make sure my compass is vertical to route down (or up) and pick NEAREST on the steel.

Then I pull in the direction I need the pipe to run... notice the pipe is centered on the steel and not TOS.  This is normal.

Now just change your compass (CTRL+RightClick) to horizontal and this is where the TOP or BOP from above comes into play.

You should see the pipe sitting on the steel now.  If it is not, change TOP to BOP or vice-versa... again it depends on your compass direction initially.  Works everytime for me.
