We changed the box to wireframe by editing the Ortho Temp.dwg file default view setting which is stored in C:\Users\****\AppData\Local\Autodesk\AutoCAD Plant 3D 2014\R19.1\enu\Template
Weird, I have no issues having HA turned on and looking at the viewcube. When I turn HA off, the viewcube is harder to make out which view I'm looking at as the colors of the sides are extremely dithered rather than a transparent colored cube.
I'm not seeing similar problems attaching images using IE. If you can, try PM'ing me the images, I'll see if I can get them attached.
With the OrthoCube on, try different visual styles. Some of them do seem to make the OrthoCube opaque. Is there at least one visual style that works for you in this case? Does 2D Wireframe work?
Another idea is to check your video card driver. Certified graphics drivers
