Custom equipment nozzles

I need to use a threaded connection on a pressure vessel, but I all see as options are flanged or plain end connections in the equipment builder. How do I work around this without being able to creat custom nozzles? thanks?

Hello and thanks for the post,

Yes I also notice that only FL or PL can be set.

I wonder if creating a new joint type, such as ThreadedEquipment would be helpful. You can use the Threaded joint properties as a template and add PL to THDF. Plus an optional property so that it would not be used accidently as a default. You can then select and substitute Buttweld with ThreadedEquipment. The equipment would not represent THDF correctly, but Threaded would be the correct fastener, and appear in Data manager.

Improving the ability to set equipment nozzle properties is high the list we are looking to improve.

This is all great but how do you:

"You can then select and substitute Buttweld with ThreadedEquipment"

Its very frustrating to not have the simplist components available in this software.

I have a similar issue. I need to be able to add custom nozzle sizes.

Say i have a fabricated poly tank and need to attach things to it ...ie 110 poly elbows etc.

Plant will only allow me to add a DIN 100 DN size nozzle....how can i add a plain nozzle of size 110 ?????

Is there a file i can go and add info to (like you do when working with lisp or mdb files)

Cheers

Richard

Hello,

You can use the Substitute grip to exchange compatible connector types.  When substituting connectors, it helps to be in wireframe. Press CTRL to select sub-objects in a compound joint.  But modifying the joint type to force a connection is not the best way I think because you can create custom nozzles.

In the 2011 version you can edit the NOZZLE Catalog.acat Auxiliary Catalog File (*.acat).  Adter using Duplicate Component in the catalog editor, you can change the end type to THDF and save.  The nozzle will then be available to Add or Modify Nozzles (Change Type).

I was also able to add a new size (DIN 110 DN) using the catalog editor.

Looking at this some more.

It turns out that there are threaded nozzles in the catalog.  But the PartSubtype: "ThreadedNozzle" does not list in the nozzle edit dialog.  You can change the type to StraightNozzle and it will then list, but unfortunately it will not insert (as if the shape THDF/SW uses is not supported).

The workaround I can think of using the Catalog Editor is to select a PL end type like Nozzle, ASME B36.10.  Then "Duplicate Component" to create a new nozzle and set the end type to THDF.  You can then select the part in the nozzle editor dialog (image attached), and it wll connect properly.  But you will not see the collar.  I wil log this problem and report here if I find a better solution.

OK now i can edit the nozzle .acat  file and add nozzles for use on my machine...path to acat is C:\AutoCAD Plant 3D 2011 Content\CPak COMMON.

can this be moved to a network location (say where the projects specs are) or does this have to be stored localy. ie need to copy paste the acat file onto eveyone in the offices c drives every time a nozzle is added???

To set the location where Plant 3D looks for catalogs, copy the catalog to your network location and then change the values under the registry key below:

Key Name:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R18.1\ACAD-9017:409\P3dContent

Values:

"ConfigFilePath"

"P3dContentRootPath"

Does PnID 2014 allow the creatation of custom nozzles and are there atep by step instructions on how to create a custom -(fully functional) nozzle thay looks like the one in the attachment, but be buttweld? I am testing PnID 2014 and want a nozzle that looks like that one, none of the OOTB nozzles in 2014 look like I want.

Plant 3D 2014

Is there a way to attach a flange to a xref pump or equipment nozzle.

When I click on the flange in the original equipment the Continuation grip shows up.

The problem seems to be when trying to do the same with xref nozzles.

You can attach a flange, but you will need to select it from the palette and place it on the connection point in the xref. The connection will be made. there is just no continuation grip available from xreffed objects.
