A few generic questions

Hello everybody!

Just installed our new copy of plant 3D (used only inventor and normal autocad before) and in a few weeks i'll have 2 weeks of training. But before I have to urgently work on a small project and would need your help on a few things I'm having trouble with:

- I imported a 3D model of the building i have to work on. it has TONS of layers.. after hiding all the layers I dont need i ended up with just all the walls, pillars and the floor. If i want to look at a specific room from the side there is the outer wall in the way, and it becomes impossible. If i hide that layer then all walls go away, (plus it is too much work to selectively hide walls with all these layers). Moveover it happens from time to time that there are multiple walls between the viewpoint and the actual room. Is there a way to move the camera behind the wall? like if I'd be walking into the house...

- I also imported a few 3D models of components i have to place inside the building. In inventor its easy to place constraints to be able to move an object wherever you want and define its position perfectly. But how to do something like that in autocad? I tried to orient the view and move the object, then switch over to the next view and move the object again till it is in position, but its not practical, its a mess and its wuite easy to move the wrong object if there are multiple ones of the same tipe. (plus if you have the problem of question 1 with walls in the way or perspective enabled it becomes impossible) Is tehre an easy and convenient way to place objects in the proper spot?

- After placing the objects it happens from time to time that i grab them by mistake and drag them around so i have to start over again. can they be fixed somehow?

This should be it for now.. Thanks guys!

Best regards

Frifer

I would use XREF's for each of the floors in the building, that way its going to make it easier to manage your workflow. If you're working on the first floor, then separate your building into different models of different floors, then XREF that model into your piping model for that floor. The same idea goes for Equipment, make separate equipment models for the floors, and then XREF the building into that model, then place the equipment at their correct location within that floor.

With the Inventor components, are they equipment, or inline piping items?
