    upgrading from LT2005

    Hi,

I am using LT2005 version. Most of my CAD time goes into drawing either P&ID's or floor layouts. I am satisfied with LT2005 for layouts, but would like to do something to ease my P&ID's working.
Question(s): With P&ID version, what do I loose in layout-drawing respect? Do I gain something? Can I do same drawings with P&ID version as with LT2005? Is the P&ID version still "AutoCAD" regarding simple drawings?

    Thanks

    Hi Ales,

The AutoCAD Plant P&ID product uses intelligent entities that make creating
/ managing P&IDs much easier. Connections between objects are maintained and
the entities are linked to a table of non-graphical information. You should
be able to get all the behaviors you get from simple AutoCAD entities and
much more. If you do need to produce vanilla AutoCAD DWGs from P&ID DWGs you
will be able to do so in the next version of P&ID.

For more information about AutoCAD Plant P&ID, check out:

You can view a screencast at:

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Jorge

    Hi Jorge,

Thanks for the answer. I did check the screencasts of P&ID version, but they do not answer my questions. You did for the most part. What does "next version of P&ID " mean? When will it come out? I wanted to download free trial of existing P&ID, but if there is another version coming in couple of weeks (months?), should I wait?

One more question from my side: can LT 2005 and P&ID coexist on the same computer?

I do not have a release date for AutoCAD Plant P&ID 2009. Yes, LT 2005 and
    P&ID can co-exist.
Below is a response from Peter Quinn in another thread about signing up for
    BETA releases:

    *****
The best thing to do would be to go to Myfeedback and sign up for the Plant
Customer Council. The customer council is a way for us to get feedback about
all sorts of issues. We will certainly be publicizing betas and the like to
those folks. In addition, we will most likely post something in this
    newsgroup and in Ursula's blog
(http://in-the-pipes.typepad.com/in_the_pipes/) when there is a beta
    available.

Just to make sure there isn't the wrong impression, we don't have a beta to
post in the near future as of November 2007.

The link for Myfeedback is http://myfeedback.autodesk.com. If you're signed
up already, add Plant Customer Council in the Beta Code field. Otherwise,
create a new account for yourself and put Plant Customer Council in the Beta
    Code.

This will be the way that betas are distributed anyway, so you'll need to do
    it when one is available.

    Thanks again,

    Peter Quinn
