My goal is to create a valve tag that will be unique project-wide, that contains a valve tag sequence number that increments by 1 (starting with 101). I have set up everything I can think of to make this happen, but every time I place a valve, everything displays correctly except that the tag sequence number generated is always "000" for every valve. And when I place a second valve - the same thing happens, and I am not given a duplicate tag warning.

Please help!

I have created the following valve tag as follows:


...and the Project Field setting under "Number" contains the following information:


Further, I have matched the exact same properties on my valve tag annotation.

Lastly, on my test drawing I have tested the AutoGen properties to both blank fields, and Last Valve Number 100, increment by 1, but get the same result regardless.

Follow up...

After playing around with the settings a little bit more, and the only other thing I can get to generate instead of "000" is "."

Please refer to this AU whitepaper for more information about configuring autonumbering and tags:

AutoCAD P&ID Customization: Everything from Tags and Annotations to Symbols

It was written for AutoCAD P&ID 2009, but nearly all of the information in the document is still applicable to the newer releases. The main thing that has changed is the way symbols are setup from 2012 on.

I figured out the answer to my problem.

It turns out that the root of the problem was that I couldn't even access the "Assign Tag..." command from the right-click menu (by right-clicking on one of my valves).

I ended up finding the answer in a different thread:
