    Part Numbers

I'm a new user to AutoCAD P&ID and have been given the task by my company to set it up.  So far I've made good progress but one thing has me stuck.  I am trying to assign a specific part number to an item, for example a 4" ball valve has the part number of 2012, 6" ball valve has the part number of 2013 and a 4" gate valve is 4012.  It would be great if I could do it within the software, if not then maybe there is a way that I could link it to an external database.

Thanks in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately there is no budget to pay someone or for training.

Maybe you could clue me into one of the ways of doing it or point me toward the whitepapers.

cadwomen, thanks for the help you have provided.  I have played around a bit and read through the documentation that was linked.  I managed to create a part number field in the class definitions and add a tag to bring in a part number with a basic list.  The problems that I am having is that the user will have to manually select the correct part number from the list for the specific valve.

Ultimately, I would like to link to an external database list or be able to create a more comprehensive list within the project properties.  Then have it automatically tag the valve with the correct part number from the size and service of the line its on.  Just have no clue on how to do it, and can't seem to find anything on it in the discussion group or on the web.
