Creating Typicals and having each item have its own identity in data manager?

Is there a way to create "typical" of a piece of equipment that will be used over and over in the project, but each piece of equipment needs its own identity to show up in the data manager and still only show the one typical for that type of equipment?

Thanks,

Kim

As far as Data Management is concerned each piece of Equipment is unique. There are many different variables that are associated with equipment when being used in reporting. So, P&ID treats anything made under equipment as "1" piece of equipment. So, duplication is not an option. However, depending if you don't want or care about information being in a report, there is another option. You could place the equipment in the "Inline Assets-->Piping Specialty Items". For example you have a Process Line starting at a Tank and ending at a Tank. You would add a Tank symbol to the Piping Specialty Items. Add a new Tag Format to just take on the Description of the Tank you created. Add the new created Tank to your palette. Now, when you draw a process line and put a Tank at each end of the process line. The line will read From: TANK, To: TANK. Just keep in mind these Tanks will not show up on an equipment report.

there is a utilirt called PLANTXDBMANAGER which allows linking objects to an external database. that way you can link through a property with a value like 'pump type1' to a recordset in the extarnal databse to pick up standard values (like a lookup in Excel)
